Science Week

To celebrate Science Week children were tasked with answering:

What material would make the best raincoat for Teddy?

The children engaged in lots of discussion and had time to plan the experiment, deciding on what would make a good raincoat, how we could test different materials and how we could make it a fair test.

They then used their knowledge of materials and their properties to make predictions and give reasons for their ideas.

We were all surprised to find out that paper towels would have made a better raincoat than cotton as the cotton let the water run straight through whereas the paper towels were very absorbent! Most groups decided that tin foil would be the best material as it was waterproof, strong and bendy.

World Book Day

We had a lovely time celebrating World Book Day last week. It was joyous to see how passionate the children are about their favourite books and it was so nice to share a story with those parents that could make it at the end of the day – thank you 🙂

Gardening Club

It’s been a busy few weeks in our after school gardening club! We have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather and the children have been busy with weeding, making bug hotels and planting runner beans. We look forward to welcoming spring!

We are architects…

We have been busy this week experimenting by making…

After studying the work of Austrian artist, Hundertwasser, we have started creating our own buildings in Class 2. It has been a joy to watch the children experiment, problem solve and help each other out!

Thank you for all the materials that were sent in!

Class 2 Reading Challenge!!

We have started our reading challenge in Class 2 to encourage reading at home as much as possible! If you read with your child at home, please date and sign their reading diary with a short comment to let us know what they have been doing 🙂

Many thanks for your support with this,

Miss Ryan

Compost Workshop

Last week, we were very lucky to take part in a compost workshop in Class 2 which was delivered by the charity Garden Organic. We learnt all about how we can make our own compost at school, what we can and can’t put into it and which animals help us to make compost!

We will share our new knowledge with the gardening club and the eco committee and we look forward to making and using our own compost at St George’s!

Monkey Mania

It has been a rather exciting week this week with the arrival of three mysterious and mischievous monkeys!

The children have gone monkey mad and this has prepared us for our new unit of writing based upon the story Monkey See – Monkey Do.

Today, the children helped me to create a story map so that we can learn the story off by heart in preparation for writing our own version.

I have sent a copy of the story home with the children today so you can enjoy it with them at home.

Thinking about Christmas…

In Class 2 this week we have been looking ahead to Christmas (only 4 weeks away!)

We have been busy making our personal and cheerful Christmas decorations which will be on sale at the Christmas Fayre on Friday! (Sneak peek below).

We have also been thinking about why Christmas is a special time and especially why Christmas is special to Christians. Here are some examples of the lovely artwork that children are very proud of this week that show all the things we love about Christmas with the birth of Jesus being central to Christmas time.
