In Class 4 we now have a Word of the Day every day! These are either words from the Years 5 and 6 statutory spelling list or other interesting words connected to subjects we are studying or which arise from our discussions. We talk about the word, its meaning, any connected words we can think of, its origin and ways of learning how to spell it. This is a great way of learning new vocabulary, understanding the richness and complexity of the English language and helping the children to make connections across and between languages. We will update this post with our new words at the end of each week.

Week 1: chronological, language, foreign, environment, government.

Week 2: parliament, temperature, colourful, knight, sacrifice.

Week 3 : thermometer, celebrate, variety, ancient, definite.
