Computing at St George's CE Academy

At St George's, we use the Teach Computing Curriculum to support the teaching and learning of computing from Year 1 through to Year 6.

The curriculum has been developed by the National Centre for Computing Education and provides a clear, progressive programme of learning. It ensures that pupils build their knowledge and skills over time, revisiting and developing important concepts as they move through the school.

Our computing curriculum is organised around three key areas:

• Computer Science – learning how computers and digital systems work, including programming and coding.
• Information Technology – learning how to use technology purposefully to create, organise, store and present digital content.
• Digital Literacy – developing the knowledge and understanding needed to use technology safely, responsibly and confidently.

Through carefully sequenced lessons, children develop practical computing skills alongside their understanding of key concepts. They have opportunities to create algorithms, write and debug programs, explore networks and digital systems, analyse data and use a range of digital tools creatively.

The Teach Computing Curriculum enables teachers to build upon prior learning and ensures that knowledge is introduced at an appropriate stage and revisited throughout a child's primary education. Lessons are adapted where necessary to meet the needs of all learners and to ensure that every child can access and enjoy computing.

Online Safety

Online safety is an important part of our wider curriculum. We want our pupils to become confident, responsible and thoughtful users of technology, equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to participate safely in an increasingly digital world.

Our aim is for every child to leave primary school with a strong foundation in computing, a curiosity about technology and the confidence to use digital tools creatively, safely and effectively.
